I would recommend the Guesthouse & Bacpacker in Lausanne. It's a very nice place, with cozy living room and well-equipped kitchen. Great scenic view of the lake and the Alps! And it's cheap - 35 francs for a dorm bed. Head left and downhill out of the station on W. Fraisse, then take the first right on chemin des Epinettes. The guesthouse is at no 4.
